Report: Wembley chaos could have ended deadly

The chaos induced by ticketless fans in the London Wembley Stadium at the final of the European Football Championship could have been fatally.

This conclusion is an independent investigation on behalf of the English Football Association FA, the results of which were published on Friday. The government, the police and organizers also have to allow serious allegations.

Accordingly, there was a series of events before and during the game between England and Italy on 11 July 2021 (2: 3 after penalty shooting), which could have been considerable injury or death. Thus, the behavior of alcoholic and partly under drug fans, which stormed the stadium grounds, could, for example, the mass falling on stairs, the low-tramps of humans and the collapse of obstacles, was in the report.

2000 people without tickets

According to the investigation, about 2000 people without tickets at the final day illegally gained access to the stadium premises. Partially, they jumped over hubs or open fire doors or entrances for wheelchair users. Only around 400 could be removed again.

Overall, about 100,000 people traveled to the stadium, which turned into an unofficial fan zone to the stadium. Only about 60,000 people were admitted. The pressure on the stadium could have been reduced by official fan zones after viewing the examination committee. However, this has rejected the government despite the request of the police because of the Corona requirements. At the same time, however, the announcement of a Freedom-Day with the abolition of all corona measures for the 19th of July in conjunction with the first final participation in a large tournament for 55 years has led to a perfect storm of euphoria in the fans.

The police are accused of not properly interpreted signs of violence potential of the fans. The lack of guidance has led to a collective failure of those involved in carrying out the great deal.
